Tron was founded in 2017 by Justin Sun and the Tron Foundation, raising $70 million through an initial coin offering or ICO. Tron combines high transactions per second, interoperability with the Ethereum Virtual Machine and high block speeds to create a highly scalable smart contract platform for building decentralized applications. The native currency of Tron is the TRX token which does not have a maximum supply but has a number of deflationary measures including the burning of all transaction fee’s.
TRX can be held, sent, received and staked using the Tron Wallet which hosts a variety of cryptocurrency tokens and blockchain wallets. Like Ethereum, Tron has created its own TRC10 and TRC20 tokens to be used on its network. Their most usage is for the BitTorrent token or BTT used for file sharing services. In its short history, Tron has signed partnerships with the likes of oBike and Samsung and listed the Tron Van Eck Exchange Traded note or EFT.
