Cosmos was launched in 2019 by well-known blockchain developer Jae Kwon who founded the company in 2014. Cosmos places a significant focus on the Interoperability of different blockchains as a third-generation project. Cosmos brings different blockchains together in Hubs which act as a single entity to connect other projects. The native currency of the entire Cosmos network is Atom, which has the dual purpose of staking and governance. Atom has an inflation rate set proportional to the amount of the currency being staked and therefore has no maximum supply.
Atom can be staked by validators earning rewards paid from the minting of new tokens through the annual inflation rate. Atom is also used for Governance purposes. Moving Forward the ability for separate networks of blockchains to communicate in a decentralised manner is essential in the expansion of cryptocurrency.
