Kava is a Layer-1 blockchain that provides DeFi services such as stable coins, bonds, and lending to crypto users across many blockchain networks. It was created in 2018, when co-founders Brian Kerr, Ruaridh O’Donnell and Scott Stuart established Kava Labs, a for-profit company dedicated to the development of the Kava platform. As the world rapidly incsreases in the adoption of digital assets like Bitcoin, Kava provides complimentary financial infrastructure to make full use of this new asset class. The project is built on the Cosmos blockchain and uses a collateralized debt position system (CDP) to ensure that stablecoin loans are sufficiently collateralized.
If the borrower couldn’t keep their collateral higher than a defined threshold limit, the Kava liquidator module will take collateral from the failed CDPs and redirect them to the auction. The Kava ecosystem has three types of tokens, the USDX stablecoin, the HARD token and the native token, the KAVA token, which is integral in the security, governance, and mechanical functions of the platform.
