Compound is a DeFi lending protocol founded in 2017 by Robert Leshner and Geoffrey Hayes. Compound allows users to earn interest on their cryptocurrencies by depositing them into one of several liquidity pools supported by the platform. Currently Compound only deals in cryptocurrencies through the Ethereum blockchain, however has plans to carry tokenized versions of real-world assets such as the dollar, euro, yen and stocks.
The Compound blockchain attracts its users through its own native token, COMP, which is used to reward those that use the blockchain to borrow, repay or withdraw. This token was launched in June of 2020 and provides owners with voting rights with regards to the system’s protocol, rights which can also be assigned to other users. The maximum supply of the COMP token is 10 million, with only a portion of that currently in circulation. Coverage of Compound is brought to you by Platypus Terminal.
