Holochain is a blockchain network for operating peer-to-peer applications founded in 2017 by Arthur Brock. The network attempts to act as a bridge between the traditional internet and Holochain users. The project differs significantly from regular blockchain based protocols operating a unique agent centric network whereby each node on the network maintains their own blockchain. This allows the network to achieve high throughput making the operation of its applications highly efficient. This also allows faster transactions speeds and lower transaction costs. Holochain operates two currency’s: HOT token and HoloFuel.
The company initially raised $20 million through HOT token which can now be transferred 1:1 to HoloFuel. Some applications operating on the protocol include, JustOne, Sacred Capital and JuntoT. Further, the technology used by Holochain does not have the scalability issues of traditional blockchains through its use of a distributed hash table (DHT). This efficiency and scalability also allows the use and integration of Non-Fungible Tokens or NFT’s.
