Stellar, Ticker Code XLM is a blockchain network established in 2014 by the founder of Mt. Gox and co-founder of Ripple, Jed McCaleb. Hence Stellar shares many Similarities with Ripple also promoting itself as a distributed payments infrastructure company aiming to increase efficiencies within the banking system. However, it also aims to be more decentralized and also non for profit. Stellar is designed to store and move value through tokenized assets, reducing transaction costs and acting as a bridge between a range of currencies including digital and fiat.
The native currency on Stellar is Lumen which is used to pay transaction fee’s on Stellar and has a total fixed supply of slightly more than 50 billion. Stellar and its tokenized assets place a focus on working with financial institutions and international organizations. Stellar has partnered with organizations such as IBM, the International Monetary Fund and MoneyGram. More recently, the project has also partnered with one of the world’s largest stable coins, USDC.
