Litecoin was founded in 2011 by former google software engineer Charlie Lee. Litecoin was one of the earliest cryptocurrency’s and has been known as one of the markets first Altcoins. This is because Litecoin was a fork of Bitcoin and inherited many characteristics of Bitcoin such is open source code for a global payments network not controlled by a central authority. Hence the Charlie lee actually described Litecoin as a, “lite version of Bitcoin.” Litecoin has also been branded as the Digital Silver to Bitcoin’s Digital Gold, due to its lower transaction costs and faster speeds.
Litecoin’s strength lies in it’s ties to Bitcoin and its tenure on the market, with currency being supported by Paypal, partnerships with Visa 15,000 Litecoin ATMs and 50 million merchants worldwide. Litecoin is 84 million with only a proportion of which currently in circulation, with mining rewards halved every four years and does not share a genesis coin with Bitcoin. Coverage of Genesis is brought to you by Platypus Terminal.
