Project Fundamentals
- Near Protocol uses a unique sharding technology known as Nightshade making Near highly efficient and scalable.
- NEAR has a maximum supply of 1 billion tokens, with 90% of block rewards going to validators, and the remaining 10% goes to a blockchain treasury.
- Near provides interoperability to Ethereum through it’s Rainbow Bridge.
- The protocol has also company its data storage systems to a decentralised version of Amazon Wed Services.

- Near has received widespread institutional backing with the likes of Pantera, Blockchain.com, coinbase ventures and electric capital partnering with the project.
- Indian NFT exchange NAKSH launched on NEAR protocol looking to restore interest in traditional Indian Art.
- December 2021 NEAR Protocol also won the Crypto Awards “Best Blockchain Technology 2021.”
- Recently a partnership between Aurora Partners and Consensus will bring more Ethereum tools to the Near Protocol, extending the capabilities of developers building on Near and their users.
Roadmap and Announcements
- Moving forward, Near wishes to implement, Privacy Shards, additional privacy features and upgrades to its rainbow chain allowing smart contract interoperability.
- According to Near Foundation CEO Erik Trautman “NEAR’s vision always envisioned a multi-chain world, whereby each blockchain could seamlessly talk and exchange data between one another.”
- On the 16th of December Near announced that Apollo42 would be building an ecosystem for NFT services for the entire network.
- In August 2022 Near Protocols Rainbow Bridge experienced an attack that was successfully blocked within 31 seconds costing the hackers 5 ETH.
- In September 2022 Tether launched their USDT Stablecoin on NEAR Protocol.
- In September 2022 Near moved ahead with the first phase of a crucial sharding upgrade.
