Project Fundamentals
- The project has been labelled the internet of blockchains with a place for everyone including developers, token holders or anyone new.
- ATOM was introduced to help secure the Cosmos Hub through staking. This ultimately allows holders to earn rewards and vote on future network decisions.
- Cosmos states they are a superior network as they allow blockchains to maintain sovereignty, communicate with other blockchains and process transactions quicker.
- Cosmos users Tendermint Byzantine fault tolerance (BFT) which has the networking and consensus layers of the blockchain put together. This allows developers to spend less time on these complex layers and focus on the final application layer.
- Cosmos users Proof-of-stake chain with an infinite supply of coins.
Partnerships / Implementation
- Cosmos has real-world uses as it helps developers quickly make custom, scalable and secure blockchains that are interoperable.
- Over 260 developers and contributors have used Cosmos to develop apps, blockchains and wallets, including Binance Smart Chain, Terra Protoco, Crypto.com, Polygon and many more.
- In October 2021, Forte and Tendermint announced a partnership that helps bring Cosmos and a premier gaming blockchain together. Forte will help make Cosmos gaming mainstream and get the best game developers and users together.
Roadmap and Announcements
- The 2016 1.0 roadmap of blockchain interoperability, scalability and usability was delivered in early 2021, with the 2.0 roadmap announced on June 16th 2021.
- The Cosmos Hub 2.0 roadmap will focus on “liquidity, economic security, usability, and participation” to be even more attractive for the community.
- In 2021, Cosmos launched its Inter Blockchain Communications (IBC) protocol, allowing for cross-chain communication and token transfers.
- In September 2022 Cosmos announced a new vision and multiple upgrades in a new whitepaper.
