Zilliqa was launched in 2019 in by a team of engineers, programmers and entrepreneurs at the National University of Singapore. The platform is a sharded blockchain protocol which is linearly scalable and can achieve extremely high transactions per second. Zilliqa uses a unique smart contract language called Scilla which allows simple and comprehensive testing of smart contracts with a emphasis on safety, designed to be less vulnerable to attacks.
In essence the protocol aims to provide high throughput smart contract blockchain platform solving scalability and safety issues. The native currency of Zilliqa is the Zilling token or ZIL which has a maximum supply of $120 billion tokens. ZIL is used for Staking, to pay for and execute smart contracts, as a reward to validators on the network and to pay for transaction fees. Furthermore, the network also has an active NFT ecosystem.
